Ron Few was born and raised in East Point, Georgia. He graduated from Russell High School in East Point and studied at Morris Brown College, the University of Cincinnati, and earned his Fire degree from Dekalb College. A dedicated and visionary leader, Ron retired from a 35-year career in public service in 2012.


He was the first African American firefighter in the East Point Fire Department and was promoted through the ranks to become the first African American Fire Chief. While there, he is credited with hiring the first female firefighters. During his tenure with the East Point Fire Department, Ron was a board member at the East Point Child Development Center.

After 24 years of service in East Point, Ron was hired as Fire Chief of the Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department, where again he was the first African American Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Chief. During this time, he successfully combined city and county resources to expand firefighting procedures.


After serving the Augusta-Richmond community, Ron was recruited as the Fire/EMS Chief in Washington, DC. In this role, he led a staff of nearly 2,000 employees and managed a $130 million-dollar budget. His exemplary leadership during the 911 attacks was recognized by Ebony Magazine and other local news outlets.


Ron also served as the Fire Chief in Demopolis, Alabama for 4 years. Additionally, he held an appointment as the City Manager in Clayton County in 2014. Ron now spends much of his time actively involved in his community and spending time with his grandchildren.
